Wheat Ridge Past & Present

Wheat Ridge was originally a well-known rest stop during the Gold Rush before it became an agricultural and suburban community. In the late 1900s it was known as the “Carnation City” and was later incorporated in 1969. Situated in Jefferson County, the Home Rule Municipality now has a population of about 30,166. Clear Creek runs from end to end and it is bordered on the north by Interstate-70. Wheat Ridge is located just six miles from downtown Denver and only a couple hours from the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

 

Wheat Ridge Schools, Parks & Recreation

There are over a dozen parks in Wheat Ridge which incorporate walking trails, playgrounds, open spaces and various sports fields. Wheat Ridge also has a number of lakes open to the community and residents are within minutes from Sloan’s Lake Park and the Historic 25th Avenue Business District. In addition, its close proximity to Denver gives residents easy access to downtown dining, shopping and entertainment. Wheat Ridge is run by the Jefferson County Public School System which includes more than 10 schools. In addition, there are a number of private school options within the area. The Wheat Ridge Education Alliance has been in place since 2014 and has since then been devoted to the advancement in educational excellence in the area.

 

Wheat Ridge Real Estate

The median sales price for a single-family home in Wheat Ridge is around $375,000, which is a little over a 13% increase from the previous year. Home and apartment renters in the area will find a median rental value of about $1,947 per month. Although they are a little high for the average, it is still less than surrounding areas such as Golden and Applewood.
